Our blueprint for quality.

Every printer claims to be committed to quality. But what does that mean? At The Garvey Group, delivering quality involves…

Creative thinking. No printer can deliver the best product or provide the best service without placing great importance on creativity. Creative thought is responsible for developing new and better ways of meeting the customers’ needs. At The Garvey Group, this commitment to creative thinking is demonstrated every day, in many ways.

Experience. Garvey management subscribes to the belief that, before one can do something well, one must do it repeatedly. Therefore, it’s reassuring to note that Garvey employees in the packaging printing group can draw on more than 75 years of collective experience.

Attention to detail. Quality printing requires not only the perspective that comes from creative vision, but also the meticulous focus that comes from consistent attention to the little things. Details matter.

Consistent follow-through. The job came off the press but was it shipped on time? Was it delivered as scheduled? Did the customer have any concerns on receipt of the job? And ultimately, was the job well received by the customer’s end-users?

AICC Member. Because corrugated board is such an important material in the packaging industry, it’s important to The Garvey Group that our Packaging Team members know as much as possible about advances and changes in that area of the industry. To that end, The Garvey Group is a corporate member of the Association of Independent Corrugated Converters.

The Garvey Group takes an active role in AICC events and discussions, because we believe that by knowing the needs of and challenges faced by corrugated converters, we can better help our customers produce the best packaging possible.

Six Sigma

Six Sigma describes a measure of quality that strives for near perfection. Six Sigma is a disciplined, data-driven approach and methodology for eliminating defects in any process. To achieve Six Sigma, a process must not produce more than 3.4 defects (i.e., anything outside customer specifications) per million opportunities—a “perfection rate” of 99.9997%. For comparison, a “mere” 99.90% success rate, or Four Sigma, would result in two plane crashes at O’Hare International Airport every single day. (Fortunately, airline pilots operate at a 6.2 sigma.)

The Garvey Group has a Six Sigma “Master Black Belt” on staff responsible for aligning process with customers, serving as a focus on the voice of the customer and being responsible for measurable tracking of process improvement. Our Six Sigma program is based on the six pillars of process excellence: Voice of the Customer, Process Mapping, Measurement/Data Collection, Defined Roles and Responsibilities, Process Review, and Linking and Leveraging Process Management Activities to Strategic Direction and Goals. Our Master Black Belt is responsible for improvement modeling in all our processes, from administrative and technical to press and shipping operations.
