National Association for Printing Leadership Reviews Garvey Large-Format Print Operation
Squeezed
by competitive and market pressures, more commercial printers than
perhaps ever before are taking a good, long look at the marketability
and profitability of expanding their services to include wide-format
printing—and they’re liking what they see.
When looking at large-format printing presses, says Raymond Prince, Vice President and Senior Consultant, Operations Management for NAPL, “the message is that they are back. At one time we did have roughly 125 76- and 78-inch presses operating in the country. That was back in the ’60s.”

Garvey Obtains G7 Master Printer Certification
April 2009—The Garvey Group underwent several weeks of intensive review
and training and received a G7 Master Printer status from the International
g7Digital Enterprise Alliance (IDEAlliance), the global leader in developing,
educating, and validating best practices in media, publishing, and
information technology.
The
Garvey Group is one of a small number of companies worldwide to achieve
this distinction. G7 Master Status identifies printing companies, prepress
service providers, and agencies that have been trained to use the G7
Proof-to-Print Process, a calibration method that allows printers to
reliably achieve a close visual match from proof to press. Earning
the qualification signifies that a company uses the most modern technology
and techniques required to ensure color fidelity throughout the printing
process.

Garvey Adds Second 81-inch press with UV Capabilities
Niles, IL., March 2009—The Garvey Group has just finished installing its second KBA Rapida 205 81-inch six-color sheetfed press at its Niles, Ill. facility. This second Rapida 205, being installed nearly 24 months after the first, is specially-configured with inline UV capabilities manufactured by AMS (Air Motion Systems), which will provide both production and environmental bonuses.
Installing two 81-inch sheetfed presses, side-by-side, in our facility sets us apart from our competitors in many distinct ways,” says Joe Kulis, chief operating officer for The Garvey Group at its Niles location. “We are the only printer in the Midwest to own this distinction. These presses demonstrate to our customers the stability and commitment of our business. It allows our customers to come for a press approval and see their UV-printed job at their fingertips. From a practical point-of-view, having the two presses next to each other allows our company to streamline our paper delivery to both presses, helps our press crews move between the two presses, and gives us the flexibility to move jobs from one press to the other.”
While the initial KBA Rapida 205 is equipped with aqueous coating capabilities, the second press shares the distinction of being equipped with UV features that provide fast turnaround, specialty substrate printing, and environmental benefits
